CRESTED TERN
Often found amongst the Silver Gulls and about the same size, the Crested Terns may be distinguished by their shaggy black caps.
They used to be found in large numbers on the little jetties in front of the shacks. When it is meal-time they may be seen diving for food.
WHISKERED TERN
Smaller than the Crested Tern, this greyish bird always seems to be on the move, flying low over the water and plunging for food. It is called “whisker” because of its white cheeks. Its voice is a grating ‘kittitt’ or ‘ki-ik’
CASPIAN TERN
This is the largest of the Terns with a black cap and large red bill. It is common in Eastern Australia and an occasional visitor to Milang.
