PACIFIC BLACK DUCK

Possibly the most common duck in Australia, it has two black lines on a buff face. It likes any suitable water with permanent vegetation, including backponds, farm dams, tidal flats and public gardens. The male has a soft three-note quack but the female has a loud descending six-note quack!

AUSTRALIAN GREY TEAL
Found all over Australia this small brown duck has a pale throat and a small white patch on its upper and under wing. It can be found on almost any water.
Usually in pairs and even in flocks of thousands the pairs persist. The male’s voice is a muted peep but the female has a loud penetrating quack like laughing for fifteen or more syllables.

AUSTRALIAN SHELDUCK
A large black duck with a distinctive white collar and chestnut breast. It grazes on short green grass and dabbles or upends in shallow water and will then loaf around all day in large flocks. Call is a distinctive loud honk.
